Brian McCollum breaks down notable metro Detroit concerts, Oct. 12-18

A full list of upcoming shows follows Brian McCollum's highlights below:

Thursday

Gov’t Mule

The Warren Haynes-led outfit is back for another round of potent Southern rock jams, this time on the heels of the band's 11th studio album, "Revolution Come ... Revolution Go." 6:30 p.m., the Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward, Detroit. 313-961-5450. $32.50-$75.

Friday

Rezz

This 22-year-old Ontario DJ has only been at the music game for a couple of years, but already she's built formidable buzz thanks to endorsements from Skrillex and Deadmau5, who released her debut full-length, "Mass Manipulation," last month on the Mau5trap label. Opening is California duo the M Machine. 8 p.m., Royal Oak Music Theatre, 318 W. Fourth, Royal Oak. 248-399-2980. $20-$30.

Saturday

Mayer Hawthorne

Infectious soul stylings and Motown grooves from the Ann Arbor indie star. 7 p.m., the Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward, Detroit. 313-961-5450. $20.

Cosmic Slop Festival

Having returned in 2016 after a three-year break, this celebration of Detroit musical diversity is back for a family-friendly day of activities that will include at least 16 performers, including Rosie and the Fellas, Young Punk, Cast Iron Cornbread, Electric Otto and Roxolydian, fronted by fest organizer Deekah. Full lineup is at the Cosmic Slop website. Noon, Tangent Gallery-Hastings Street Ballroom, 715 E. Milwaukee, Detroit. $20 (adults), $5 (ages 13-18); free (12 and under).

Sunday

Kesha

Life has thrown a few curve balls since Kesha hit the scene in 2009 with her rock swagger-meets-pop glitter confection "Tik Tok." Success was followed by rehab for an eating disorder and a lengthy legal entanglement with Sony Music and former producer Dr. Luke. But the mood right now is celebratory and redemptive as the singer-songwriter hits the road in support of her chart-topping third album, "Rainbow," which brings her to the Detroit area for the first time since 2013, when she co-headlined the Palace of Auburn Hills with Pitbull. With Savoy Motel. 7 p.m., the Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward, Detroit. 313-961-5450. $32.50-$62.50.

Brand New

This New York band waited long enough between albums for the emo revival to come around: "Science Fiction," released in August, is Brand New's first album since 2009, and the group's first to top the Billboard 200. With Nada Surf. 7:30 p.m., Fox Theatre, 2211 Woodward, Detroit. 313-471-6611. $33.50-$63.

Tuesday

Benjamin Booker

The Motor City got its first glimpse of Booker's punk-blues guitar heroics when Jack White handpicked him as a tour opener in 2014, including a pair of Detroit dates. He's back with plenty of career momentum and a stellar sophomore album, "Witness," with the New York duo She Keeps Bees in the opening slot. 8 p.m., Magic Stick, 4120 Woodward, Detroit. 313-833-9700. $20-$25.

Queens of the Stone Age

Josh Homme and company — including Royal Oak-bred keyboardist Dean Fertita on keyboards — hit town with QOTSA's thundering riffs and hypnotic roar as the band marks its new album, "Villains," supervised with verve by dance-pop producer Mark Ronson. Opening is British hard-rock duo Royal Blood. 7:30 p.m., Fox Theatre, 2211 Woodward, Detroit. 313-471-6611. Sold out.

Wednesday

Andrew W.K.

Fifteen years ago, Saint Andrew's Hall and the Shelter hosted the biggest shows of Andrew W.K.'s fledgling career: a pair of performances celebrating the Ann Arbor-raised musician's debut album, "I Get Wet." Since then, the positive-spirited, party-hearty rocker has enjoyed career tangents including advice columnist, university lecturer and cable host. With a new album on the way in March, his first since 2009, he's on the road with his Party Never Dies Tour — which brings him back to Saint Andrew's. 7 p.m., Saint Andrew’s Hall, 431 E. Congress, Detroit. 313-961-6358. $20-$45.
