In yet another directorial shakeup, Disney and Lucasfilm fired Colin Trevorrow from 'Star Wars Episode IX.'

In yet another directorial shakeup, Disney and Lucasfilm fired Colin Trevorrow from "Star Wars Episode IX," leaving the ninth installment in the fabled series without a director yet again. Many fans argue Disney doesn't get what made the original trilogy a cultural touchstone, and say no director with fresh creative vision will ever get past the gatekeepers at Lucasfilm. Others think Trevorrow deserved firing, and that a different director will do a way better job. Can Star Wars IX be saved?

The Mary Sue thinks Trevorrow didn't deserve the job in the first place, and applauded Kathleen Kennedy for giving him the ax. Maybe now she will hire Patty Jenkins or Kathryn Bigelow or Ava Duvernay?

Some fans were thrilled Trevorrow was fired.

Others argue the issue isn't the director: it's that there is way too many expectations riding on this film. There's no director who could fulfill the artistic demands of this massive corporate franchise.

Cynics are saying that when every new "Star Wars" movie seems to have production and staffing issues, it traces back to corporate oppression of creative human beings. It's hard to have hope that the films won't just be giant product placements. Big business doesn't make good art.

But some fans are sick of the naysaying. It's "Star Wars," it's going to be amazing!
