An error in this electric plug can shock and cause a fire

Home Depot recalled 42,000 Ningbo Litesun Electric converters. The front outlet prongs aren’t configured properly,

There aren’t many parts on a $5 commercial electric 15-amp outlet converter, but enough got switched around that Home Depot’s recalling 42,000 Ningbo Litesun Electric converters.

The problem, as described in the recall notice, is “the outlet converters’ front outlet prongs are not configured correctly, resulting in reverse polarity when plugs inserted, posing shock and fire hazards.”

And Home Depot has received one report of a customer being shocked.

These are model No. LA-05 and UPC code 818897010121. They were sold at Home Depot from February through July, although you might want to make sure the company doesn’t still have them on the shelf somewhere. Home Depot in August agreed to pay a civil penalty of $5.7 million, chump change for the chain, for knowingly selling products from 33 different recalls from August 2012 through November 2016.

Home Depot’s offering a refund on the outlet converters. Customers wanting a refund can call the company at 877-527-0313 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time Saturday.
