Charlotte developer Hopper Communities is putting dozens of new townhouses on the market at the SouthPoint community in South End, the company said Tuesday.

Developer Bart Hopper is counting on demand from apartment renters who want to stay nearby but are tired of being tenants. The two- and three-bedroom townhouses will start in the high $300,000 range, and they’ll range in size from about 1,300 to 2,000 square feet. There will be 33 townhouses in the second phase of SouthPoint, in seven buildings. Construction is planned to start soon.

The first phase of SouthPoint, consisting of 53 townhouses, is almost sold out. Hopper said two are still on the market.

“We started SouthPoint two years ago with the belief that there simply weren’t enough for-sale options in South End,” Hopper said, in a statement. “The market response has been tremendous, and we look forward to introducing this second phase to buyers who want to make their home in one of Charlotte’s most popular neighborhoods.”

SouthPoint is located on Remount Road, between South Tryon and Youngblood Streets, near the New Bern light rail station. The new townhouses will include options to build rooftop terraces, as well as hardwood floors, quartz counterrops and stainless steel appliances. Three-story units will include two-car garages as well.

The area around SouthPoint is still booming, with hundreds of new apartments under construction, the redevelopment of the former Pepsi Bottling site and Sedgefield Shopping Center, a planned Lidl and, of course, more breweries.
