Autocross

CENLA SCCA Nighttime Autocross starts its engines at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center on Saturday. Autocross, or Solo II, is a time-driving skill competition taking place on a miniature road course.

Registration and car inspections for participants will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., with competition beginning at 8 p.m.

Spectators get in free. Cost for participants is $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers.

Walk with Ease

An exercise program called Walk with Ease meets three times a week for six weeks beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Ascension Parish Library’s Gonzales Branch. It is presented by Ascension Parish Library and St. Elizabeth Community Education.

Walk with Ease is a program of the Arthritis Foundation designed to reduce pain and improve overall health. Each session includes a brief lecture and walking exercise.

Kanji Klub

Join Ascension Parish Library’s Kanji Klub at 6 p.m. Monday at the Gonzales Branch for a mystery-themed gathering.

Watch “Case Closed” and learn to build a Unabox: a keyless, secret compartment puzzle box.

Kanji Klub is for people ages 18 and older interested in anime and pop culture related crafting. Cosplay is welcome. Call (225) 647-3955 for details.

Blue Advantage

Ann Booth leads a free Blue Advantage 2018 AEP seminar at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Elizabeth Hospital’s Sister Linda conference room. Refreshments and light snacks will be served.

Ascension Parish Library is hosting a free seminar at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Dutchtown Branch for those interested in starting a small business.

A senior business consultant with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and A&M College-Baton Rouge will discuss the feasibility of business ideas and how to get a small business loan.

Frightful nights

Ascension Parish Library’s Dutchtown Branch is showing “The Visit” (PG-13) as the second film of its three-week Fright Night Movie Series at 6 p.m. Oct. 19. Popcorn and drinks will be furnished. Small children should not attend.

STEM story

Children in grades two through five can exercise their STEM skills at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Gonzales Branch of Ascension Parish Library.

A reading of Candace Fleming’s “Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!” comes to life with provided materials so children can either help the rabbits get into the garden or take the farmer’s side and keep them out.
