The red Jeep police say was used in a brazen highway shooting on Interstate 93 Sunday has been seized by state police, but authorities disputed a news report that a suspect in the shooting of the father-and-son bikers had been arrested.

“All I can say at this point today is that no one is charged with the Expressway shooting at this time,” state police spokesman David Procopio said in an email. “The investigation is ongoing. Both victims remain hospitalized.”

A gunman shot and wounded two men on Interstate 93 southbound in Dorchester late Sunday, prompting a police manhunt for a red Jeep and two suspects. The incident forced a two-hour shutdown on that side of the Southeast Expressway.

The 54-year-old father was at Tufts Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries yesterday, according to authorities. His 32-year-old son was at Boston Medical Center and in critical condition.

The father is from Raynham, while his son lives in Taunton. Authorities did not release their names yesterday.

WCVB, citing sources, said a suspect was arrested in Franklin yesterday. State police, however, immediately took to Twitter to dispute the report:

“Some media reporting suspect arrested for yesterday’s double shooting on Xpressway,” the state police tweet said. “Please note: NO ONE has been charged with the shooting.”

Earlier, state police indicated that there was an ongoing investigation to identify the suspects.

Suffolk District Attorney spokesman Jake Wark said the “investigation remains open. No one has been charged. No charges have been sought. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains very active.”
