The Bears will be without Kyle Long, Prince Amukamara and Marcus Wheaton, as expected, for their season-opener Sunday against the Falcons. That puts them down three projected starters against the defending NFC champions.

Long continues to work back from the reconstructive right ankle surgery he had last November. He was limited in Thursday’s practice, which wasn’t in full pads. It was the first time he participated in practice since Aug. 14. Veteran backup tackle Tom Compton replaced Long at left guard in the preseason.

Wheaton missed almost all of the preseason, first because of an appendectomy and then a broken left pinkie. He started catching footballs last weekend and believes he is close to returning. Deonte Thompson is in line to start at flanker, opposite split end Kevin White.

Amukamara was listed as doubtful for the game because of the right ankle injury he suffered Aug. 27. Cornerback Kyle Fuller is in line to start against the Falcons vaunted passing attack. It will be his first game since the 2015 season. He sat out 2016 following August knee surgery.

The other inactives for the Bears are: defensive lineman John Jenkins, receiver Tre McBride, running back Taquan Mizzell and quarterback Mark Sanchez.
