Ed Orgeron might just get back both of his standout defensive linemen this week.

Defensive end Rashard Lawrence participated in Tuesday's practice in full pads and without donning a gold/limited contact jersey, a positive sign that he's working his way back to full health. Lawrence was also spotted at Monday's pad-less practice indoors.

Lawrence, a sophomore who Orgeron has called the team's most consistent defensive lineman, injured his left ankle during the season opener against BYU, but finished the game. Orgeron announced Monday that he was "questionable" for the Southeastern Conference opener against Mississippi State on Saturday.

The Tigers are already getting back All-American edge rusher Arden Key, something the coach announced Monday. Key practiced in full pads Tuesday, running with the starting outside linebacker/edge rushers during drills.

Lawrence practiced Tuesday during the 13-minute portion of drills that reporters observed. He did so with his left ankle heavily taped.

Other practice observations

  • WR Dee Anderson practiced Tuesday. It's the first time reporters have spotted Anderson at a practice this fall.
  • RB Darrel Williams returned to practice after missing Monday's drills. Williams, the immediate backup to RB Derrius Guice, was sporting a gold/limited contact jersey and had his left knee heavily wrapped.
  • Several defensive players were absent from practice, including defensive end Frank Herron and edge rusher Sci Martin. Their situation remains uncertain. The two players have not played in the first two games and appear to be doubtful to travel to Starkville. Edge rusher Andre Anthony (ankle injury) was against not practicing.
