PISCATAWAY -- Sundays are becoming big days at Rutgers.

One week after Rutgers unveiled the state-of-the-art Marco Battaglia Practice Complex, coach Chris Ash, his assistant coaches and multiple players not yet heard from during training camp will be available for interview on the program's annual Media Day.

7 observations from Rutgers open practice

Ash kicks off the event with a press conference at 11:30 a.m. Here are three things he is sure to be asked among a dozen or so questions.

1) When will you name a starting quarterback?

Louisville graduate transfer Kyle Bolin jumped in front of returning starter Giovanni Rescigno during the second week of training camp. There's not much time for Rescigno to make up lost ground considering offensive coordinator Jerry Kill said last Tuesday that he wanted to have a starter named within the next week or so.

2) Which true freshmen are locks to play 2017?

Rutgers hasn't issued an official two-deep, but there are several 2017 recruits rotating with the first- and second-team offense and defense.

The list includes wide receivers Bo Melton, Hunter Hayek and Everett Wormley, quarterback Johnathan Lewis, right tackle Sam Vretman, linebackers Syhiem Simmons, Olakunle Fatukasi and Tyshon Fogg, and defensive backs Naijee Jones and Edwin Lopez on defense.

Will they all play or could some still redshirt? Will others not in that group play?

3) What's the potential for a defensive turnaround?

With so much focus on Rutgers' last-ranked offense and "inept" special teams last season, the under-performing defense flew under the radar.

Considering Rutgers returns eight starters on defense and that's where Ash made his reputation as an assistant coach, you can bet there is a high expectation for the unit to shoulder some of the burden for an offense going through personnel and scheme changes.
